With the second half of term 1 under way, the students are enjoying their new topic entitled ‘Let’s Experiment’. We are learning about the forces that are all around us and shape the universe, as well as being a part of our every day lives. We will learn how to think scientifically as well as conduct experiments fairly and accurately. A large component of ‘Let’s Experiment’ is teamwork, cooperation and communication—discussing things with partners, groups and the class. Sharing ideas is a big part of what we will do. We’ll also be looking at the wonders of the physical world by designing, building and of course thinking outside of the box!
During English lessons this half-term we’ll be looking at dialogue and role plays. We’re learning how to locate and punctuate direct speech, write dialogue correctly and adapt stories to create our own scripts and role plays which will be performed in front of the class. We’ll continue our work with phonics, spelling and word-level activities such as verbs (especially speech verbs), adjectives and adverbs to enhance our writing.
In maths we’ll be continuing on from our work on 2D and 3D shape, symmetry and line, and moving into measurement for the rest of the term. We’ll look at formal and informal measurement, selecting and using appropriate units of measurement, reading scales, estimating and measuring, and much more. It has been great fun so far, so we look forward to the rest of the term’s work!
Homework: By now you will be aware that homework is being sent home, marked, every Friday in the students’ homework folders. If there are any queries about the feedback given, please feel free to comment in the communication book or via e-mail. Homework should be taken out of folders each Friday and shown to parents, then they can be kept/discarded as you wish.
Educational visits: We will be taking a trip to the Ekkamai Science Museum as part of our ‘Let’s Experiment’ topic later this term—a letter along with details about the trip has been sent out today. Please sign and return the permission slip with 300B to the office by Wednesday, 7th December.
Parent/carer contact details: I have sent a letter home last week asking for updated parent/carer contact details. Please complete and send back as soon as you are able.
